ХI International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz
The Senior Group (April 17 - 27, 2017)
1. Competition conditions
The
Competition in the Senior Group is opened to young pianists of all
nationalities, born between April 17, 1984 and April 17, 2001.
The Competition consists of 4 stages: the First and the Second Rounds - performances of solo programs
Semi-final (6 participants) - performance accompanied by the symphony orchestra (concerts of Viennese classics),
Final (3 participants) - accompanied by the symphony orchestra (concerts from the Romanticism
to the Modern period).
The selection of
participants of the Competition is held on the basis of:
- the application
form filled out on the web site of
the Competition

- the professional
video record of the program on the participant's choice, but with
obligatory performance of virtuoso etude; performance
duration - from 10 to 15
minutes; the record should be made not earlier than in 2016 and placed on the channel www.youtube.com, the
link on it should be given in the application
form; the participants from China can place their videos on www.youku.com;
- copy of a birth certificate or passport;
- two pictures, suitable for printing in a booklet, and taken not earlier
than in 2016;
- copies of documents confirming previous competitions'
awards.
Documents
specified in the last three positions should be sent on one of these e-mail
addresses:
Applicants
who during the last 2 years were
or currently are students of a Jury member or have family relationship
with a Jury
member are not allowed to take part in the Competition.
The Administration is not responsible for the
loss of documents in transit.
Incomplete sets of documents and documents sent with a delay will not be considered.
The Administration does not provide participants with medical insurance.
The selection by video records will take place in Kyiv in February 2017.
According to the examined results, the participants of the First Round
of the Competition will be determined. The list of them
will be publised on www.horowitzv.org by
February 15, 2017.
The invitation to the contest will be sent to the participants by March 01, 2017.
All
participants who will receive invitations must notify the Competition's Administration
about the precise date and time
of their arrival to
the Competition by March 25, 2017.
The list of the participants, who did not show up for the Competition without proper notification of refusal
to participate in it, will be submitted to the World Federation of International Music Competitions for
the circulation among its members.
Foreign
participants will be responsible for obtaining their own passports and visas.
They may contact the
nearest Embassy or Consulate of Ukraine for advice upon these matters.
The Competition Fee is US $100 or the equivalent of this sum in the National
currency of Ukraine under the rate of
the National Bank of Ukraine and is to be
paid during registration
.
The registration and casting of lots of the participants will be
held from 10.00 a.m. till 01.00 p.m. on April 17, 2017
at the
Administration
office: Ukraine, Kyiv, 31 Lva Tolstogo Str.
The sequence
of participants' performances is determined by casting of lots and remains
until the end of the Competition.
The Competition's auditions are open to the public.
Repertoire must be played from memory.
The Prize-winners
of the Competition are obligated to take part in the Closing
Concert and accept the offered concert
engagements which are an integral part
of the prize.
2. The Jury
The Jury of
the Competition works according to the "Regulations on the Jury". The
list of Jury members will be published
on the Competition's website not later
than December 30, 2016.
The Jury estimates participants' performances by secret voting during all
rounds.
The Jury may interrupt a competitor's performance if he or she overruns the
time stated in the Competition's rules.
The Jury's
decisions at the all stages
of the Competition are final and cannot be discussed, revised or
appealed.
3. The Administration
The Administration of the Competition provides free of charge with:
- accommodation and per diem expenses to Competitors accepted to the First Round while he/she is taking part at the Competition;
-
acoustic rehearsals (10 min) before the First Round and
one rehearsal with the orchestra for the participants of Semi-Final
and Final in the Competition Concert Halls;
- instruments for the self-preparing (3 hours a day).
The
Administration has an exclusive right to all audio and video
records and broadcast of the Competition's performances
on the
Internet; they are property of the International Charitable Fund of Vladimir
Horowitz Competition.
The
Administration has an exclusive right to sign contracts with other parts with
the aim to advertise or sell out
above-mentioned materials.
The participants aren't provided with the fees for the Competition's materials used by the
Administration.
4. The Prizes
The 1st Prize - $20,000 USA, the title of the Prize-winner and the Gold Medal;
The 2nd Prize - $10,000 USA, the title of the Prize-winner and the Silver Medal;
The 3rd Prize - $5,000 USA, the title of the Prize-winner and the Bronze Medal;
The 4th Prize - $2,000 USA, the title of the Prize-winner;
The 5th Prize - $1,500 USA, the title of the Prize-winner;
The 6th Prize - $1,000 USA, the title of the Prize-winner.
The Prizes
are awarded according to the Jury's decision.
Depending on competitors' achieved results and within limits of established
amount of prizes the Jury has the right:
- to award not all prizes;
- to divide
awards (except the 1st prize) among the
participants.
All prizes are paid in the Ukrainian national currency with the payment of
income tax according to the valid Ukrainian legislation.
5. The Repertory Requirements
the First Round
1. Bach. One Prelude and Fugue from Well-Tempered Clavier.
2. Clementi, Hummel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Weber (on the participant's choice). One Sonata in a complete volume (without reprises).
3. Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Debussy, Stravinsky, Ligeti (on the participant's choice). One virtuoso etude.
4. A piece by Ukrainian composer.
Performance duration - up to 35 minutes.
the Second Round
1.
Obligatory work (see the Attachment № 1 «Pieces from the V.Horowitz repertoire»)

2. One or more pieces by composers from Romantic period to present
time.
Performance
duration - 40-45 minutes.
Semi-final
A concerto (in a complete volume) of Viennese classics (see the Attachment № 2 «Concertos for piano with orchestra»).
Final
A concerto (in a
complete volume) from the Romanticism to the Modern period (see the Attachment №
2
«Concertos
for piano with orchestra»).
ATTENTION!
The program given in the Application
form cannot be changed after February
20, 2017.
In case of contradictions in the interpretation of these Conditions, the
Ukrainian text is the only correct one.
