JUNIOR GROUP

November 22-25, 2021 (by video recordings)

Due to restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Organizing Committee of the XIII International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz decided to hold the Competition in the Junior Group online.

There are changes in the text of the section Competition conditions!

1. Competition conditions

Young pianists of all nationalities who were born between November 22, 2006 and November 22, 2012 are allowed to participate in the Competition in the Junior Group.

The selection of participants is carried out by the Administration of the Competition on the basis of documents received from the applicants.

To participate in the Competition, applicants must submit the following documents:

- an application form which is completed on the Competition official website www.horowitzv.org with mandatory duration of each work and a URL link to a video recording of the First and Second rounds on YouTube;

- a copy of the birth certificate or passport;

- half body shot photo (300 dpi), suitable for printing in a brochure and taken no earlier than 2021;

- copies of documents confirming previous awards in music competitions, if any.

as well as completed application form (including URL link to a video recording)

on the Competition website www.horowitzv.org -

Technical requirements
for video recording of the participant's program:

  • each participant must upload an unedited high-quality (HD) video of their performance to YouTube and provide a URL link with their application form;
  • video recording of the performance is preferable to be carried out on a Grand Piano on stage in a hall or similar room;
  • during the performance of the program, the piano, face, hands and feet of the pianist must be clearly visible on the video;
  • video recording should be carried out without turning off or stopping the camera, from the beginning to the end of the performance separately for each round, without video editing. Do not add titles, fades, or video transitions in the performance videos;
  • the sound must be recorded live. A studio recording is only accepted if it is made without in one take. Any proof of multiple takes will result in disqualification;
  • before performing the program, the participant must state his/her name, country and indicate that "the recording was made specially for the XIII International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Junior Group";
  • a video must be posted on the participant's YouTube channel as Private or Unlisted andmust have an appropriate description: surname, name, city, country and repertoire of two rounds;
  • if the video recording does not comply with the technical requirements of the Competition, the submitted application will not be considered;
  • after sending the video, no replacement of the repertoire is allowed;
  • by submitting the application and video recording for the Competition, the participant confirms and accepts all conditions of these Regulations.

Applicants who have been students of a Jury member over the past two years or are now a student of a Jury member, as well as those who have familial relationships with any of the Jury members, cannot participate in the Competition.
Documents received incomplete or late will not be considered.
The Administration, upon receiving the application materials, will determine the participants of the Competition. The list of participants of the Competition will be posted on the Competition website www.horowitzv.org

Competition performances are auditioned in alphabetical order (Ukrainian language) of the names of the participants.

Order of performances will be announced on October 30, 2021.

All pieces of the program are performed from memory.

Competition auditions will be streamed on the YouTube channel of the Horowitz Competition https://www.youtube.com/c/HorowitzCompetition/playlists and on the pages of the Competition partners from November 22 to 25, 2021.

2. Financial conditions of the Competition

In order to properly organize and conduct the Competition, all participants pay a charitable organizational contribution in the amount of US $ 70 or the equivalent of this amount in the national currency of Ukraine at the National Bank of Ukraine rate. The charitable registration fee is paid at the time of completing the application form and is non-refundable, even if the participant is disqualified from the Competition.

ATTENTION!!! When paying the registration fee, the purpose of the payment must be indicated: Charitable contribution [full name of the participant]. Payment is made on the website of the Competition partner https://music-bridge.org/vnesok/ * and is confirmed by a scanned copy of the receipt or a screenshot (only high-quality and clear image).

3. Jury

The Jury of the Competition works according to Jury Regulations.

The list of Jury members will be published on the Competition website no later than August 1, 2021.

The evaluation of the participants' performances at all rounds is conducted by secret vote.

The Jury with the consent of all members has the right to decide on the termination of a performance if it exceeds the time limit specified in the Regulations.

The decisions of the Jury at all stages are final, and are not subject to discussion,

revision or appeal.

The Competition for the Junior Group is held in two rounds:

  • First Round - according to repertoire requirements;

Jury members determine 12 participants who are allowed to participate in the Second  round;

  • Second round - according to repertoire requirements;

Jury members determine 6 Prizewinners of the Competition

4. Administration

The Administration owns the exclusive rights to all audio and video recordings of the Competition performances; they are the property of the International Charitable Fund of Vladimir Horowitz Competition.

The Administration has the exclusive rights to conclude contracts with other parties for the purpose of advertising of the above-stated materials.

Participants are not paid any compensation for the Competition materials being used

The Administration of the Competition has the right to engage the Prizewinners in concert activities during season 2021-2023.

Enterprises, institutions, organizations, public associations, charitable foundations, as well as individuals may, at their own expense, set additional prizes, special prizes, and other awards for the Competition participants in agreement with the Organizing Committee.

The Prizewinners of the Competition in the Junior Group will participate in the final virtual concert of the Competition.

5. Prizes

The 1st Prize - $2,000 USA, the title of the Prizewinner and the Gold Medal;

The 2nd Prize - $1,500 USA, the title of the Prizewinner and the Silver Medal;

The 3rd Prize - $1,000 USA, the title of the Prizewinner and the Bronze Medal;

The 4th Prize - $ 600 USA, the title of the Prizewinner;

The 5th Prize - $ 300 USA, the title of the Prizewinner;

The 6th Prize - $ 200 USA, the title of the Prizewinner.

The Prizes are awarded according to the Jury's decision.

Depending on participants' achieved results and within limits of established amount of prizes the Jury has the right:

-  to award not all prizes;

-  to divide awards (except the 1st prize) among the participants.

All prizes are paid in the Ukrainian national currency with income tax withheld in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.

Enterprises, institutions, organizations, public associations, charitable foundations,

as well as individuals may, at their own expense, set additional prizes, special prizes, and other awards for the Competition participants in agreement with the organizing committee.

6. Repertoire Requirements (all pieces of the program are performed from memory)

First Round

1. J. S. Bach. One Prelude and Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier.

2. J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, L. Beethoven (participant's choice). 1st movement or 2nd-3rd movements of a Sonata.

3. M. Clementi, C. Czerny, M. Moszkowski, F. Chopin, F. Liszt, S. Rachmaninoff, A. Scriabin, C. Debussy, I. Stravinsky, D. Ligeti (participant's choice). One virtuoso Etude.

4. A piece by a Ukrainian composer.

PLEASE NOTE! Sergei Prokofiev is not a Ukrainian composer!!!

The performance should last up to 20 minutes.

Second Round

1. A required composition (see Attachment 1, «List of required repertoire for the

Second Round»).

2. One or more piece(s) of choice by composers from the Romantic period to the

present time.

The performance should last up to 25 minutes.

PLEASE NOTE!

The program presented in the application cannot be changed during the Competition. In case of contradictions in the interpretation of these Conditions, the Ukrainian text is considered to be only correct one.
